HAPPY YEAR OF THE DRAGON!
Well, its safe to say this painting stole half my soul :P Even worse I painted like a mad woman today to finish it and thanks to the Swedish Daylight in the winter...I had about 15 minutes before sunset to take those photos lol.

So its safe to say it DOES look alot better in real life ;) Sorry folks me and my camera skills once again!

the chinese temple on cliffs surrounded by misty fog

The whole painting is chalk full of symbolism which i carefully panned out. As I said, its year of the dragon, inspiration for this painting! So for me the dragon is 2012, wearing a bit of golden armor acquired from the hardships of last year. The dragon, which doesnt look really chinese but has influences, is a keeper of balance, the ying and yang. So, I added the scales in her hands, in a pose as if shes guarding it. Which for me is important this new year, keeping balance and stability which had been lost for some time now.
chinese woman in traditional robes guarding the pomegranates in the bamboo forest
The woman in the corner is pointing the way for the dragon, holding pomegranates, which is a sign of fertility in China (as well as a dragon). I want this to be a prosperous and "fertile year", full of rich opportunities.

The mountains are the long way there is to climb to reach all the goals and resolutions, the mist the inbetween phases, things you just cant plan between the now and the then.

I wanted to add a rabbit in the corner to symbolize the past year, and also my birth year (i was born 1987, year of the rabbit) but I ran out of time :( *cry*

Anyway.
This was a long and laborous project, but it was a good way to start the new year.
Painting in symbolism and challenging myself quite a bit with some difficult tasks
But I hope you all enjoy it and Happy Chinese New Year again! :D

Enchanted Visions Project - Circe Painting Complete!

"Circe - Keeper of the Golden Fleece" acrylic on linen canvas 9 x 24 cm
So! Here she is - my acrylic painting of the greek goddess Circe, who is the daughter of the sun god Helios and keeper of the Golden Fleece.
Though I know she plays an interesting part in The Odyssey - I chose to paint a close up with one feature which had a meaning to me - which was the fleece do to stories when I was a child.

I hope you all like her!
Oh, and Happy monday :P

Because Michelle Izzard Hates Me Anyway!

Hehe the title says it all. Last night, I had plenty of time on my hands. I knew it was the time to paint after a long day at work and at school, but I just am so mad at my Cardinal girl painting I couldnt muster up the courage to battle through it.
However!!
I was recently accepted into the Enchanted Visions Project, where a theme is picked and fantasy artists paint what they feel from the theme every month.
This month is Circe - the greek goddess! Also the keeper of the Golden Fleece.
So using my trusty face once again I set to work on a very small linen (whoa so different to cotton O_o) canvas I had saved.
Heres photos of the progress I made last night!:

it always looks creepy when the skin goes in and nothing else, then once the eyes and lips are defined its finally human once more!

I used the same technique as the Canary girl here, making layer after layer of swirly hair color

and this is where I am now! Gold in her hair, the fleece just starting to take shape around her shoulders, and the crown of leaves on her head done.
This is my first time participating in Enchanted Visions and I am really excited to contribute this time around! Hopefully can be finished with this painting this weekend, and then tackle Cardinal Girl O_o

I need to be so fast because I have a secret santa digital painting I need to do for Secret Santa on DA and I am not really so excited about that atm -_-

Anyway hope you like Circe, and Michelle! Go paint! Or come here and do it :P
